America Decides 2024: My Case for Donald J. Trump
Political positions should be from personal perspective. All black people do not have the same perspective and from mine (valid because America impacts my world drastically), Trump is much better than Kamala Harris.
[Disclaimer, or should I say trigger warning? If you get unduly worked up over a person’s political choices, especially one that aligns with over 70 million American voters, take a deep breath, and respect other opinions. If that’s too difficult, close the tab. Easy. If we’re familiar in person, and my choice irks you, you can either resist the urge to fracture a personal relationship over folks who do not give two about you, or come full throttle. I’m good either way.]
TL;DR
Political positions should be from a personal perspective. All black people do not have the same perspective and from mine (valid because America impacts my world drastically), Trump is much better than Kamala Harris when it comes to critical issues such as keeping world peace, free speech and immigration.
Preamble
I would assume that I am an educated, well-travelled, broadly read, relatively financially stable technologist who is independent-thinking, somewhat centrist & quite rational. I also happen to be a black Nigerian man with Afrocentric views. And when it comes to who should be the next President of the United States, I strongly believe Donald “Trumps” Kamala Harris by a lot.
I’ll explain.
First, to answer an obvious question as to why I should have an opinion on the US elections when I am not voting in the elections, since I’m neither a US citizen nor an “illegal immigrant”.
I did not need to vote in the 2008 American Elections before the US-led NATO toppled and killed Gaddafi, a sitting Head of State, destroying a prosperous Libya in its wake, leading to the proliferation of weapons & destabilization of the Sahel Region as a result, mutating a minor Boko Haram irritant to a full-blown war in parts of my country, Nigeria. And then the same US refused to sell us (Nigeria) weapons to fight them. Or is there a need to highlight the role the US, directly and indirectly, interfered in the Nigerian elections, leading to the imposition of a current President with more than a questionable background?
Since the world’s business is America’s business, America’s business is the world’s business. America sneezes, and the world catches a cold.
Introduction
I’d like to set the stage for how I think about political positions, especially as they relate to foreign nations: One’s support for a political candidate should be driven by their agenda, interests, values, beliefs, priorities, etc.
Though this should be obvious, sadly, a shocking racist trope as propagated by the Democratic Party and her leadership and broadly accepted is that politically all black folk share a similar world-view, interest, and perhaps a single brain. Because of all races, it is only for black folk that it is unacceptable to support any other party than the Democratic Party.
“You are not black if you are *considering* not voting for me”. - Joseph R. Biden. Democrat Leader and 46th President of the United States.
AKA, “We took you out of the plantation, you belong to us”.
I reject this view. I will try to make my case as an individual - like any other, with complex overlapping interests.
My Case for Donald Trump
I strongly support Donald Trump because his position on a number of critical policies, as theorized and previously implemented, are far better for the world. Here is how.
Foreign Policy: America First! And a Peaceful Multi-Polar World.
A lot of the geopolitical tensions and wars we see in the world today - especially the America-influenced war in Ukraine, primarily have to do with the geopolitical question of America’s position in the world. Should America be the pre-eminent and sole world power and, therefore, the world’s police; or if she is one of the world powers?
In the quest for the former, America has spent the last 2 decades instigating wars globally and in the process spreading itself thin & becoming functionally weaker. Whenever I or others express opposition to America’s “globe capture” foreign policy, the regular refrain is, “Go and live in Russia”, or “Move to China”. Not only is it shallow, it misses the point. If it is not controversial to state that monopolies are bad, then is a monopoly of power remotely good? If competition is good, shared dominance will ensure and limit abuse. And this applies to the USA.
[Side note: Other Western countries, who would have acted as a balance, have all been consumed. The UK is now an appendage of the EU lapdog of the US, and they are all dragging themselves to a dangerous level of irrelevance as China becomes a dominant force]
Trump’s “America First” is an America that prioritizes itself first, and becomes much more prosperous and stronger, and it also minimizes the chaos it causes due to its failed quest to monopolise authority the world over. If the US had not wasted two decades destroying Iraq and Afghanistan and the set decade upending Libya and Syria, it would have been stronger, and more prosperous and the world would be a better place.
A weak America does no good for anyone. An America that spends more time minding her business, is more effective. The America of today is so ineffectual that they are unable to stop any wars. Even the ones they “deem small” like the evil civil disaster in Sudan, and the anarchy in northern Nigeria.
It’s time to Wrap Up the Wars.
That Trump’s first term was the only one in decades where the US didn’t instigate a new war did not happen in error. And that Ukraine & Palestine went up in flames under Biden is also not in error. It merely represents differing world views on one hand, those who profiteer from chaos and death and think power should be used to destroy and who have other ways to utilize their power to have their way but without the need for bloodshed.
Free Speech and the return of Dissent, Debate & Choice.
In 2001, Pfizer used my countrymen for experimental drugs. Many died. In 2021, it was illegal to ask questions about hurried vaccines produced by the very same company. Mental. COVID & the Vaccine episode, where it was practically illegal to question a mandate by the US government to get you injected, went against everything a free society should be. But that was not the main tragedy. The big tragedy was how quickly the private sector brutally enforced the mandate in unison. It made the shocking dependency on global discourse on less than 5 individuals: Zuckerberg, Dorsey, Pichai via Page and Brin. Who went on to censor the sitting US President.
Like with security backdoors, the tools of censorship are not purpose-limited. Once you build the tool to be used for X, then it could and therefore would be used for Y. So what started as a tool justified in an emergency health situation, began creeping into diabolical spaces. As of 2021 here it was illegal to say only women can get pregnant - you would have disappeared from the internet and more. The brutal censorship was creeping into everything until Elon Musk turned the tide. The best use of $42 Billion ever! We are not out of the woods yet, because outside X, there is a brutal clampdown on censorship, and at the same time Elon Musk faces down every attack possible.
The risk has gone beyond mere censorship, as we see “history” is being distorted in real-time. A previous institution of truth - journalism (was it ever?) is now churning fake reality.
The Democratic institution of today hates and tries to destroy speech that goes against their agenda. Some will excuse all these desecrations as necessary to stop an existential threat of Trump, but precedence works like Hooke's Law - once you cross, the path is forged, and you do not know who else will take it.
A Trump presidency will roll all this back. This will happen not because Donald Trump is particularly a free speech champion, but because the US press and media institutions are so overwhelmingly left-leaning and anti-trump that they will be obliged to hold power to account - as it should be. Unlike what we see today where 0% of the US media, tragically and embarrassingly, fails to hold power to and account and parrot whatever power directs them to parrot. That 90% of the media will (fairly or unfairly) hold President Trump (therefore power) to account. A bug-turned-feature.
All of this directly affects me, as my country unfortunately overwhelmingly depends on and mirrors the information and communication systems of the US.
The Palestine Question
It is not all roses for me when it comes to Trump. I disagree with the comments he has and hasn’t made in the Palestine issue. Whilst the ongoing evil genocide tortures my conscience - despite him not appearing sympathetic to ending the ongoing evil, Kamala Harris and the government in which she serves come off worse, and it showcases how decrepit of integrity the democrats are. While Trump doesn’t show sympathy, Kamala warns Netanyahu by noon and by 3 pm sends another batch of bombs to kill Palestinians.
The Tangential
There are a few other issues that are not primary interests of mine, however align tangentially,
[It is very important to clarify that I do not subscribe to a lot of Trump’s positions, utterances, and/ or methods. After all, I’m from one of the “shit-hole countries”. But I am aware enough to know it is impractical to align with anyone on everything except you are a zombie, a liar, or both. So you weigh things and make a decision.]
Immigration and the Brexit Example.
I am not a fan of the term illegal immigration especially when the US was founded based on illegal immigration, but hey, might is right, right? But it is quite alarming to see educated Nigerians & Africans embrace the illegal open-border immigration policy of Kamala vs the point-based system as proposed by Trump.
Immigration maths is simple: the USA needs people, as they do not reproduce enough to fulfil their labour needs. So if the USA needs 1 million immigrants, the question then is how should they get these people: via random chance of “first to the border” or through systematic methods like the points-based system. Or a combination of both? Which is good?
I’d say it would depend on An unemployed youth from Nicaragua or Mexico should support taking a long hike and walking across a Texas border. A Nigerian, who is attending graduate school in Howard, should want a system that prioritizes people with advanced education. And of course, if they have a nuclear family, it is obvious they should come as a package.
But here is the thing, If 980K people cross the border, then the allocation for people that are in Universities and their families is 20K. If you reduce the number of people coming in via the border to 100K, then 900K spots are open.
I am a strong proponent of my people travelling to nations where they can achieve their potential, send money home, and hopefully return one day with all the skills gained. So I am very perplexed when I see people who have their spouses on 5 years + waitlists, why do they cheer the immigration policies of the DNC like they are in a trance? I would have thought people not in a position to cross any western border should want a system that would give them a chance.
[A little digression: This reminds me of Brexit. I was very much pro-exit. I know a closed border with Europe will drastically improve the emigration chances of my people since the immigration quota remaining would not begin only after the last Polish rascal had crossed over, but we’ll all have an equal chance. 90% of those that opposed me on some weird “this is not good for EU” argument are now nestled in various parts of the UK clutching onto their Global Talent BRPs / resident card]
The African American & The Democrats
Few things offend me more than the ownership the Democrats have taken of Black folk. A chronic case of “Entitlement without any reward.” This is why for the past 60 years of absolute loyalty, a constituency that's relevant to me has little or nothing to show for it. We are merely tools for their agenda. Why is it that wherever they see a rising Black folk who do not toe the line, they are maligned by the “Cabal.” From Ben Carson to Herman Cain to Tim Scott. If the idea was to lift and celebrate successful black folk, do they become less worthy because they become Republican-leaning?
[Anyway, black American politics reminds me of the last 3 decades of local politics by my Igbo tribe in Nigeria, who were only useful as long as they were willing pawns of the erstwhile ruling party. The moment they demanded ownership, they were shown their place. No, Obama doesn't count.]
In either case, it is a very bad negotiation to go all in with a party without any negotiation. You will certainly be taken for granted in perpetuity. The moment more back folk decide to vote Republican, you’d be offered a better deal. See what happened, recent polling showed they were losing black men. They sent Obama to rein in his ‘boys’; when it did not work, they upped the offer albeit, an offer of $20K, to buy weed and play the crypto market. While it is as disrespectful as offers come, they have discovered offers need to be made. Punish them at the polls and they will come to renegotiate.
The Voters Against Trump
I concede that there are many legitimate reasons people would have against voting for Trump for example some say he is not strong enough on abortion or his brash style. There are those that look forward to open borders, as that affects them or their families directly. Others may simply think Kamala Harris is the person to tackle many of America’s pressing issues. Hell, they could even be very upset that a roast comedian called Puerto Rico floating garbage at a Trump rally. I think all that is valid. I will not begrudge them as rights are theirs to use as they wish.
Then here are those with a faux sense of morality when people talk about their opposition to rooted in the events that are held on January 6th. Considering how honest and truthful the government beholden media is (in the past couple of weeks, they created a response for Kamala, took half a sentence of Trump criticizing Cheney and created a big lie) it is logical and fair to state that no one really knows what happened on January 6th. Even if election integrity is supposed to be the basis of anything, the U.S. politics has been degraded so much that integrity doesn't count for anything any more. An election where it is illegal to ask for the identity of those voting.
Conclusion
There are facts that cannot be denied, Trump is the most formidable man alive. He’s survived the full weight of the United States government (and more) thrown at him. They tried to kill him, but he is still standing. It is important to note that even though Trump is the candidate of the Republican Party, this election is actually a race between the establishment and the anti establishment.
I hope you vote for Trump. If you are African, I assure you that voting for Trump is the most practical way to support a foreign policy that works in the interest of your country's men and women. And this is not because of a special liking of you, it just happens to align with our interests.
As for my black brothers and sisters, even if you feel loyal to the Democrats, stick it to them and they will renegotiate. Just a little hint here and there, they are trying to bribe you with $20K and Weed. They may want to pull the “after all we’ve done for you” card, but remember “The saying goes, ‘do not bite the fingers that feed you’ but what if the fingers stop you from feeding yourself?”
How do I think this election will end? An electoral college blowout? and Kamala would struggle to match the popular votes of Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden. If this occurs - it won’t be because Kamala is grossly incompetent, unable to articulate any logical argument, lacks principle, hijacked a primary process, or because Joe Biden sabotaged her. It would be because of the wonderful Jill Stein, who has given an option to those who want to give a middle finger to the establishment.
Postscript
Before publishing this, friends, family, and colleagues from both sides of the political aisle asked me to reconsider (my dad has even refused to read the draft) “There is little or no upside in publishing a post like this but a lot of downsides” And my response to them is simple. “Exactly”.
If merely supporting a candidate who was a former US president can get one cancelled, then we are in the DNC ushered in perilous times, and anyone who can, should speak, or write.
I leave you with a picture I took in my village 5 years ago. I wonder who he is and where he is. Hopefully, he is alive because he’ll get a nice gift from me this Christmas if when Trump wins.
